走进外研

The Foreign Language Teaching and Research Press (FLTRP) was set up in 1979. In the past 27 years it has enjoyed steady growth to become the largest university press and foreign language publisher in China. Since 1990, its publishing capacity has enlarged 10 folds, from 100 new titles and 200 reprints per year to 1,000 new titles and 2,000 reprints. Its sales have gone up 130 times, from 10 million yuan to 1.3 billion yuan. Net profits have multiplied 80 times, from less than 2 million yuan to 160 million yuan; total assets have expanded over 200 times, from 4 million yuan to 820 million yuan. And its infrastructure has improved tremendously, from 1,000 square meters of office space to more than 20,000 square meters.

FLTRP is the market leader in several areas. It provides textbooks and relevant services for more than 5 million college students, or half of the total student population in China’s higher education. Twenty-two out of the 32 provinces and municipalities in China have adopted FLTRP primary English textbooks and relevant services. It also takes up 25% of the market share in non-curriculum English learning materials, including coursebooks, dictionaries, academic works and readers. This surpasses the total of the second, third and fourth runner-ups. Of the more than 30 foreign languages it publishes, FLTRP also occupies the largest market share, such as French, German, Japanese, Korean and Russian, to name just a few.

Over the last two decades and more, FLTRP has served as a window for Chinese to learn foreign languages and cultures through its numerous publications of foreign origin. Today, it has taken on the mission to open a new window for foreign friends to know China better through publications on Chinese language and culture.


    外语教学与研究出版社(简称外研社)成立于1979年,是北京外国语大学创办的大学出版社。作为一家学术性、教育性出版机构,外研社以“记载人类文明,沟通世界文化”为己任,努力介绍和引进国内外优秀文化和作品。
    目前,外研社拥有11个独立法人单位的1400多名员工,构成了一个学术性、教育性、多种媒体的大型出版机构。围绕“面向全民外语教育,提供全面解决方案”这一发展宗旨,外研社的产品结构形成了以幼儿园、小学、中学、大学、研究生、成人教育、终生教育英语教材和期刊为主,辅以语言学与辞书、文学与读物、教辅与测试,以及德、日、俄、法、西等30多个语种和汉语及对外汉语图书出版的布局。出版物的形式也由单一的纸质图书发展为图书、音像、光盘和网络相结合的全方位、立体化出版。
    外研社现有在印的图书共4000多种(与英文数字——3000种——稍有出入),每年新出版的图书为1000余种。在过去的10年当中,2005年,外研社销售码洋达到13亿元人民币。经过27年的发展,外研社已经发展成为中国规模最大的外语专业出版机构,也是中国规模最大的大学出版社,被认为是中国“英语图书市场上真正意义的产业领导者”。
作为中国最大的外语出版机构,二十七年来,外研社积淀了大量的外语资源,包括品牌资源、内容资源、市场资源等。
    2005年,外研社制定了两个战略发展规划,一个是外研社的“十一五发展规划”;另一个就是“外研社对外汉语与中国文化出版战略规划”,即“走出去”出版工程。在“十一五发展规划”中,外研社明确了自己未来的五年目标:以出版为中心,以教育培训和信息服务为两翼,数字化出版,产学研结合,成为综合发展的教育服务平台。作为外研社“十一五”发展规划的有机组成部分,“走出去”出版工程计划在今后的十年内,一年投资一千万,十年投资一个亿,出版上千个品种的汉语学习与中国文化产品。正如李朋义社长所说,“过去的20年,外研社引进了大量的国外优秀出版物,为国人学外语看世界打开了一扇窗户;未来的20年,我们要把中国优秀的出版物和璀璨的文化推向世界,为外国人学汉语看中国打开一扇窗户!”
    2006年7月新闻出版署龙新民署长在视察外研社时曾经指出:希望外研社全体员工“继续发挥优势,抓住两大资源:一个是中国人学外语的资源,一个是外国人学汉语的资源,在新的起点上加快发展,把外研社办成一个国内一流、世界知名的大社。”外研社发展的新思路正是把外语资源优势拓展至汉语资源、综合资源的优势,在外国人学汉语的资源方面也作好充分的积累。
